Factelle

AI & Automation Policy

Human accountability

Every Factelle article has a human author or editor responsible for accuracy, fairness, context and publication. An artificial intelligence system is not credited as an author and is not treated as a reliable source merely because it produced confident text.

Permitted assistance

Approved tools may assist with transcription, translation, research organisation, document comparison, accessibility, headline options, copy-editing suggestions, coding or repetitive production tasks. Output must be reviewed in proportion to the risk.

Verification

Names, quotations, statistics, citations, images and factual claims produced or transformed by automated tools must be checked against reliable source material before publication. A model-generated citation is never accepted without locating and reviewing the source.

Prohibited uses

Factelle does not permit fabricated quotations or evidence, undisclosed synthetic reporting, impersonation, deceptive deepfakes, automated accusations, unsafe exposure of confidential sources, plagiarism or unsupervised publication.

Disclosure

Material use of generated text, images, audio or video is disclosed when a reasonable reader would need that information to understand how the work was created or to assess authenticity.

Privacy and confidential material

Confidential sources, unpublished investigations, personal data and restricted documents must not be entered into an external AI service unless an authorised, privacy-appropriate arrangement and editorial need are in place.

Reader-facing summary tools

Links that open an article in a third-party AI assistant are optional conveniences. The third party applies its own terms and may produce incomplete or inaccurate output; the published Factelle article remains the source text.

Errors and review

AI-assisted work is subject to the same Corrections Policy as other content. Factelle LLC reviews this policy as tools, risks, law and reader expectations change.

Essential storage is always active. Optional categories only run after you save an affirmative choice.
